Art and Music
1. San Francisco Symphony, The Music Lab: Has tons of fun characters, lets the kid be the composer, learn at their own pace, fun, artistic, colorful layout. Shows great examples and ties to art with a “measure are houses” visual, shows what the instruments look like, learn what lots of symbols look like and mean, and also connects colors with notes and sounds.

2. Smithsonian American Art Museum, "Meet Me at Midnight": Has lots of information on artwork within a fun game. Also, lots of different art styles are reviewed. The story is pushed onward with fun musical cues and sounds and also has "thinking music" while solving the puzzles. The music makes the whole game come alive in it's own sense and allows students to predict what comes next and be a successful detective and solve the mystery!

3. The Artist's Toolkit, "Warm and Cool Colors": Uses sounds effects, such as, rooster crows and owl hoots, when showing warm and cool colors and how they would help represent night and day so children will understand where they come into artwork. Also, fun sound effects are happening when you “create” your own work of art with cool and warm colors.

4. The Artist's Toolkit, "Pattern Repetition": Another pick from "The Artist's Toolkit, repetition, shows how it can be a neat concept of both art and music by the intro having music to correspond with the artwork being displayed as well as using audio to say the definition of repetition. The art shows how music can inspire different images in people's minds. Also it allows the children to explore more by choosing how they would display repetition and it again uses fun sounds to represent similar "sounds of art" while they create their own image.

5. New York Philharmonic Kidzone, "Instrument Frenzy": The website is full of fun color and gives students a visual image connection to what the instruments look like, as well as, their instrument's sound. Also, the animation character is fun and really creative which can inspire kids and there is an added bonus, that they also show which instrument belongs to the music category.

6. New York Philharmonic Kidzone, "Music Match": Has again lots of FUN BRIGHT COLORS! Again, the game does a great job of giving the students a strong connection with a visual image of the instrument with their names and connecting the songs by playing a song that uses one of two of the instruments being matched. Very interesting and fun game!

7. Art's Edge, "Perfect Pitch": This game's animation and visuals are awesome! First of all, it has a really cool layout that would catch kids interest; instruments in the sky, cool field layout. To top it off it also uses "suuuuuper" cool graphics, firework instruments on their jumbotron, They provided tons of info on instruments and give kids the opportunity to visually create their own music and musical song according to musical era. Really interesting connections between a mix of art and music.

8. New York Philharmonic Kidzone, "Percussion Showdown": Another great example of art and music mix from the New York Philharmonic Kidzone site is "Percussion Showdown." It uses a still great layout with fantastic graphics and cute characters. It has a fun western theme which add to the details and little fun extras that kids usually notice. It also shows a picture of the instrument and also the sound that the instrument makes. As an added bonus it really challenges kids to improve their observation skills with memory and detail.

9. Albright-Knox Art Games: This interactive activity/game provides a cool in-depth look at works of art making the kids look deep into the image for hidden images, which sometimes can be musical instruments or things like musical scores. It is really neat for kids to see how artist remember how music ties to art and try to tie it into their creative outlet. It is a great way for them to see how much of art and music relate to each other. As well as having hidden images they also link sounds along with the hidden images.

10. Funschool, "Music Match'em": Funschool's "Music Match'em" provides a picture of the instrument, has the sound the instrument makes as well as telling you the name of the instrument. It has a really fun layout and would keep kids tuned in with it's great colors.

The visual of the instruments in all of the above games really give students a chance to cement the idea of which instrument is which. All of the above games give great examples of different instruments in all music families. Kids will then, from visual cues, start to recognize how art and music are strongly related to one and other.
